Is Facebook Using Instagram Stories to Overthrow Snapchat? | Social You Should Know

This week is all abuzz about the Instagram Stories release (and how similar it feels to Snapchat) and the NFL’s multi-year partnership with Snapchat which marks a major move in support of the platform. Meanwhile, we just found out that we’re a finalist for the 2016 Nonprofit PR Awards for our work with the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women. We’re incredibly honored to work with this client, and are extremely proud of our team behind this award-winning work.

Instagram Stories Roll Out, Providing Competition to Snapchat

Instagram is taking a page from Snapchat’s playbook and is now rolling out Instagram Stories. This feature allows users and brands to share moments throughout the day with viewers, with content only lasting for 24 hours. Many are excited about this, because it will allow storytelling without overwhelming the feed or a user’s profile with content. Although there is a lot of debate on whether this will “kill snapchat”, we think it’s less likely to lure Snapchat users away as much as it will open up a variety of storytelling options for brands, influencers, and users alike.  We’re certainly excited about it and are diving into the use cases as we speak.

NFL and Snapchat Announce Multiyear Extension of Strategic Partnership

Following the recent job posting on the NFL’s LinkedIn profile for a managing editor, the NFL has announced an extension of their strategic partnership with Snapchat, and will be the first sports league with a presence on Snapchat’s Discover platform. NFL Media will be in charge of their brands’ Discover content which will include headlines, hot topics, trends, behind the scenes videos, and much more. Live Stories will also be produced for every game leading up to, and including, the Super Bowl. Geofilters will be created for all 32 NFL teams and users at the stadiums, practice facilities, and other venues can use these filters on their snaps. We’re sure Facebook isn’t happy about this.
