06 Apr How to plan social media coverage during summer vacation

Posted at 13:30h in Social Media Marketing by Derek Roessler

Ahh, summer. The weather is warm, kids are out of school, and your favorite vacation spots are calling your name. Time to take some time off work! You can certainly wrap up your work early and everything else can wait until you’re back in the office, right? But what about if you work in social media, where communication never stops and a potential crisis is always one tweet away? Don’t worry, we have three easy steps so you can enjoy a much-deserved break.

Summer-Vacation

1) Plan your content

This is something we always recommend as a best practice, especially if you’re planning on being away from your computer. Before you pack your bags, make sure all your social content is planned and each post is not only scheduled, but is proofread and aligned to all your messaging and business goals.

2) Consider Your Boosting Schedule

For many brands, your engagement levels fluctuate greatly based on how much money is going to each post. Depending on your team’s schedule, it may be best to adjust when your social posts will be promoted to ensure your brand’s fans aren’t waiting for responses.

3) Confirm Staffing

Perhaps you’re not the lucky one who’s going on vacation, but your community manager(s) will be sitting poolside somewhere. If you’re not expecting a great deal of traffic on your social channels while they’re away, you might be able to hop in. However, if you’re planning on big events or need someone who can work as an extension of your existing team, we can help.

Working in a non-stop industry like social media can be draining. Taking time to fully disconnect from your email and social channels for a few days is important, and having your vacation strategy under wraps will help you enjoy your time away. Drop us a line if we can help you relax a little more this summer.
