Facebook Testing New Ad Unit

Yesterday a member of our team noticed a new Facebook ad unit that pulled in a recent article from NY Times, while offering the ability for users within the newsfeed to also like the NY Times brand page on Facebook.

We reached out to Facebook to obtain more details on this type of unit, inquiring if it could be obtained via the creation of an Open Graph application, a partnership with Facebook, or purchased as an ad unit. Our Facebook representative noted this specific execution is currently a limited test and isn’t available to most brands.

With Facebook feeling the pressure to expand mobile offerings, this particular test may be a foreshadowing of new Facebook offerings designed to increase a brand’s exposure within the newsfeed while at the same time growing a brand’s base of Facebook fans.
