Snapchat Rolls Out New Updates

If there is one social network that has seen monumental growth this year, it would be Snapchat.

With the increase of celebrity interaction hitting the heart of the app’s young user base (you have your Kylie and Kendall Jenner, Justin Bieber, bloggers and influencers of large scales), the Snapping realm is ripe for the picking from many brands’ perspective.

The team at Snapchat has rolled out another wave of updates to their platform, so we wanted to look at them individually and what they mean:

The youngest Jenner, Kylie, and also one of the most notable Snapchat celebrities.

The Major Snapchat Updates:

The Discover tab – originally “forgotten” in the app’s fourth plane – has now been placed exactly where users are: checking their Story to see how many eyes have seen their latest snappable escapade. And from what we know, those media partners in Discover, Cosmo, Vice, CNN, ESPN and even Snapchat itself, pay a large chunk of money to be there, so it’s no wonder they may have felt iffy about not getting the prominent placement they’ve paid for.

Snapchat’s attempt to bring their moneymakers top of mind to all users. Will it work?

The Live Stories, those taken from geo-targeted events and cities all over the world, are now also placed above your friends’ stories – which tend to get longer each and every day. Those also may have profitable interests for Snapchat, who creates sponsored filters and stickers to be used by those capturing and building the Live Stories.

And your friends’ stories, that long list that for some may be impossible to follow along with daily, now has smaller font and icons so you can see more of them at once – go figure.

This update rides on the coattails of Snapchat latest and most drastic update ever. As of just 2 weeks ago, users are no longer required to hold down the screen to watch Snap stories, and can now see their views on top of the photo or video they’ve shared.

The ubiquitous app has seen proper fan reactions to its updates across the web.

The dramatic overhaul may have taken away Snapchat’s most memorable (and frankly, endearingly annoying) feature, but it made it asier to multi-task while binge-watching Netflix, eating a sandwich, tweeting from a tablet and secretly pumicing calluses. Wait, did we just describe a Gen Z-er??!

Wow, Snapchat… You really know what you’re doing.

  • Add Nearby: Once everyone nearby opens this feature, you can see who’s around you and easily add them from there.
  • Add by Snapcode: Their QR was a little hard to scan with your phone if you were seeing it on your phone. Now you can upload a screenshot.
  • Selfies within Snapcode: Once you add your cute little mug in there, your friends and other followers will know that Snapcode belongs to you.
  • Two-Factor Authentication: SMS login verification has been added. Good for everyone on the privacy and security fronts!

With this latest round of changes to Snapchat, it’s easy to see that they have two very important goals in mind moving forward: give real value to our advertisers and keep our platform nimble to match the habits of our user base. With this recipe for success, I can’t wait to see what’s next.

What do you think? Tell us below what you’d like to see happen in the future for this growing platform – but be snappy about it.
