It’s officially 2017, and with the new year comes new news. MacStories says out with the oldish while Forbes’ millennial trends say in with the newish. All this and more in this week’s Social You Should Know.

MacStories Tells Google’s AMP to Beat It

Whether they were just jumping the gun or being a trendsetter, 2017 started with MacStories cleaning house, so to speak. Federico Viticci, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Macstories, shared his farewell to Google’s AMP via Twitter. Accelerated Mobile Pages were introduced in 2015 by Google with a goal of helping publishers get their articles loaded to mobile pages more quickly. The problem some publisher had is that the pages loaded as if they were Google’s rather than the original publisher’s. It’ll be interesting to see if others follow suit.

2017 Social Media Trends for Millennials

Forbes released some interesting information on millennial trends to expect in 2017. While the article goes more in-depth, the big four trends include:

  • Millennials still use Facebook every day (well at least 41% of them do)
  • Augmented reality was a big hit for millennials in 2016 (that trend doesn’t seem to be changing in 2017)
  • Millennials are much more active on other social media platforms than non-millennials
  • Finally, millennials want their social media to make them happy.

2016 in Memoriam

The end of each year brings a recap of celebrities who influenced our lives but passed on during the year. Well the world of social media said goodbye to a few networks and features that influenced our lives, but in a different way. In case you missed it, we did a blog post last week sharing a few social networks and features that died in 2016.
