Don’t Like the New Facebook Feed? Here’s How to Change it Back

If you don’t like the new Facebook news feed, where the top ranked news is shown first, and you have to click over to see your live feed, here’s how to change it back.

Open the “More” Link on the Left

On the upper left hand side of your page, under the Facebook logo, click the small “more” link.

Move Status Updates to the Top

Drag the “Status Updates” to the top, above News Feed.

Still a bit erratic…

In my testing, this works fairly well. On some refreshes I still get the new layout, others it’s “fixed.” So you may see an issue or two in the short term.  But that’s all you need to do!

UPDATE (10/26, 10:52a): Note that this will only share “Status Updates” and not links and other items people share. So you still may want to click “News Feed” (now your second button on the left) periodically to get a different view of what your friends are sharing.

Well, if all you care about are status updates, that’s fine. But if you also like to see Notes, tagged photos, and other stuff like that, your “fix” fixes absolutely nothing. They would really be accomplishing something if they made it so we could decide what shows up in our Newsfeed, rather than forcing us to see what they decide we should want to see.

    Still hate it!

Jeff, you’re correct. I’ve updated the post to reflect that. There are now 3 ways to see what’s up with your friends I guess.

I personally don’t have any problem with the new look, I just wish you could choose your default view of “live” versus “top”…

The ability to have news feeds where I can designate who can see what is on it. For instance, I do not necessarily want my co-workers or HS friends to see my extended family updates when I comment on them.

Also the ability to remove someone from the MAIN NEWS FEED, but still be able to see their updates in the FOLDER GROUP that I have them in.

Facebook is not just about friends…but family…and those, most times do not mix…nor do we want them to.

Unfortunatly, this hides all the links, videos, pictures, articles, etc.

Here’s how to keep groups you join private:

Here’s how to keep new friends private:

The more folks that make these changes, the less clutter in the news feeds..

Horrible design, the new one!! If FB continues this way, it will fail!! Look at the PAGE profile, i mean like business page profile, it’s crap! 1st thing, friends cannot suggest their friends to it unless you make them admin, how does that make people’s business grow?? Totally limiting..! 2nd thing, cannot customize what to put in front, that way, business cannot place their ad in the front page.. so what’s the point of engaging facebook as advertising means if all important ads are stuck on info page???? 3rd thing, artist cannot put their music player in front, like before.. so if people cannot hear their music when they come in, only when they go to info page, right at the bottom, TOTALLY DEFEATS THE PURPOSE!!! The new design is a JOKE!! I really don’t understand these programmers, do they actually use facebook themselves???
