Twitter begins to roll out their new algorithm along with other updates, LinkedIn cuts back on their ad network and Instagram makes community managers everywhere rejoice, all in this week’s Social You Should Know.

Twitters New Algorithmic Feed

As of Wednesday, Twitter started rolling out an algorithmic feed based on relevancy. This is coming in an effort to show users ‘the best tweets first.’ Right now, it is opt-in only; however it will be rolled out more widely within a few weeks. Once that happens, users will have to opt out through their settings. Additionally, Twitter just released a new premium ad unit which will put ads front and center the first time a person opens Twitter, for a period of 24 hours. For now, this unit will be video only. First View ads, a form of Promoted Tweets and Moments, will be rolled out initially in the U.S. and select U.S.-managed clients, across Twitter’s mobile and desktop apps and Twitter.com, with a global roll out planned for the near future.

LinkedIn to Shut Down External Ad Networks

Just 12 months after launching, LinkedIn is closing down part of their ad network. LinkedIn will stop selling ads to those outside of LinkedIn. It was determined that continuing to invest in this piece would not be profitable for the company – it is estimated that it will miss out on $50 million in revenue. Sponsored Content is their fastest growing and most popular ad unit.

Instagram Allows Multi-Account Switching

Brand managers no longer have to log out and back in to post to brand or personal accounts. This week, Instagram finally rolled out their new account switching feature, making the lives of community managers everywhere a little easier. That said, I would advise to still double and triple check that you’re posting from the right account. One can never be too cautious.

Finally, don’t forget to tune into our Webinar with Jay Baer next Tuesday! If you haven’t already registered, take a moment to do so today. Even if you can’t make it, we’ll send you a copy afterwards. Plus, 10 lucky people will win a free copy of Jay’s new book, “Hug Your Haters.”
