Brilliant Volkswagen Campaign Allows People To Steal Paintings

As a way to promote the new 2012 Jetta GLI, Volkswagen Canada created the Great Art Heist campaign. Improvised art galleries popped up all across Canadian cities featuring long exposure light painting photographs created by the car. The photographs were hung in public areas for all to see and a lack of security meant that a large number of them were stolen. Of course, this is what Volkswagen planned from the beginning. Afterwards, they encouraged those who ‘stole’ the paintings to share their story online through the Volkswagen Canada Facebook and Twitter pages under the #VWArtHeist hashtag.

Ozzy Osbourne Dispenses Advice via Social Media

Ozzy Osbourne promoted his new book Trust Me, I’m Dr. Ozzy: Advice From Rock’s Ultimate Survivor by using Twitter and Facebook. After the book was released, he used his social networks to provide free nuggets of wisdom to entice readers. His first free tip: “Always get a 2nd opinion–even if it means calling the doctor’s cell from 6ft underground to ask if he’s 100% sure you’re dead.”

Chelsea FC Tops Social Media League

A new study by Lewis Communications claims Chelsea FC is the top Premier League Football Club for engaging its fans. The club posts daily updates to seven million fans on Facebook and over 400,000 followers on Twitter. Manchester United has the highest number of fans on Facebook, with 19 million. But the report found that, despite having the most fans on Facebook, Manchester United was only using the social networking site to broadcast messages rather than interact with supporters.

Latin America: One of the World’s Most Dynamic Media Markets

Marketers and advertisers are increasingly seeing Latin America as a new frontier for social media. Among the factors piquing interest are its population and economic growth, the burgeoning middle class, and increasing mobile-phone usage. Not only do Latin Americans spend more time on social media than most of their peers around the world, but the region has one of the highest social-media penetration rates. Five of the top 10 markets in the world in terms of Facebook reach are in Latin America.
