JCPenney QR Codes Help Create Voicemail Gift Tags For Christmas

Last Tuesday, JCPenney launched a unique QR code campaign showing the technology can be used for more than linking to a site or video. When you purchase a gift from any JCPenney store during the holiday season, you receive a ‘Santa tag’ which has an accompanying QR code. By scanning it, you can then record a personalized voice message for the person you’re giving the gift to. Once you’ve that done, just stick the QR code onto the present and send it off. When they receive the gift, they can then scan the code using any QR reader to hear your message.

Social Spam Start-Up Gets $8 Million In Wake of Facebook Attack

Former Yahoo “spam czar” Mark Risher just got $8 million of venture-capital funding for his new start-up. Called Impermium, the company has created technology for social network sites to combat spam. The move couldn’t be timelier. Spammers are moving their efforts away from email and toward the social Web. They’re exploiting the ability to create fake profiles for free and gain a viral presence across various social media tools. Impermium, founded last summer, is building a virtual credit score for users across the Internet so that websites can predict the likelihood that a user is actually a spammer.

Social Media Users Love Beer According to Amplicate

According to a new social media analytics report from Amplicate, Social media users were very positive about popular beer brands on social media in the last 12 months. The report found that 77% of all opinions on social media about popular beer brands, such as Heineken and Budweiser, were positive. Guinness by far was the most loved beer on social media with 82% of opinions expressing enthusiasm for the Irish favorite. Perhaps most surprising is that social media users loved to discuss beers’ marketing efforts or commercials on social media. In fact, nothing got social media users talking positively about beer more than beer companies’ advertising.
