Social Media to Dictate Unique 24-hour London Tour

Bambuser is a mobile app that allows you to stream video live from your phone. Today, the company’s Executive Chairman Hans Eriksson is embarking on a 24-hour tour of London with a unique twist – the route is being entirely dictated by social media users. He’s live-streaming the entire journey from his mobile phone. You can follow the tour on Bambuser’s live stream, on Tumblr, or on Twitter by following @bambuser or the even man himself @HansEriksson.

Singapore Airlines Finally Discovers Facebook and Twitter

Singapore Airlines is making its belated social-media debut this week, sending tweets for the first time and taking over an unofficial Facebook page that was run for years by an enthusiastic fan. London banker Khoa C. Huynh started the Facebook page in 2006 to meet others who were curious about the company. Without any promotion, the page attracted nearly 110,000 fans. Mr. Huynh has not received compensation for his work running the Facebook page for five years but he will serve as an outside consultant for the airline.

FTC Needs New Rules for Investigations, Watchdog Says

A new petition is calling for the Federal Trade Commission to clearly define its investigation practices. Those new practices may lead to better protection for companies like Twitter, Facebook, and Google. The Center for Regulatory Effectiveness, an industry watchdog, says the FTC needs to develop new rules to assess whether companies are using unfair tactics. The agency claims newer technologies, like social media, are subjected to older rules and warns FTC investigations may be premature and deliver uneven rulings.

Maryland Uniforms Start Social Media Buzz

Within moments of taking the field in state-flag inspired Under Armour uniforms, Maryland football became one the hottest trending topics in social media. Not all the comments were positive, but “University of Maryland” was Google’s second-most searched for term on game day and more than 1,000 articles have been created on the topic just this week. Even Head Coach Randy Edsall saw his Twitter following jump by almost 2000 in just a few days. All that buzz helped contribute to a 50 percent spike in traffic to the University of Maryland’s athletic site when compared to the same week a year ago.
