Twitter Adds More Real-Time Insights & Tools

In the war of networks trying to own real time conversations, Twitter has recently launched a new product to help marketers better identify and target popular events being discussed on the platform. By adding an ‘Event calendar’ to the ad tool, marketers can now have access to a Twitter curated editorial calendar to look ahead and plan content and campaigns around major global events like sports events or award shows. Another tool, ‘Event insights’ helps marketers learn from these previous events – letting users see the demographics and audiences that were most active in previous events to better target their advertising and content for future events.

Facebook Tests Profile Tags

Similar to LinkedIn endorsements, Facebook is testing a feature for Facebook friends to be able to tag other friends with characteristics, hobbies, or other tags that could describe a person from a third-party perspective. While it isn’t clear when these will roll out, it’s a clear move for Facebook to provide even more data for targeting. The potential risk to advertisers is whether these tags will be used for fun (users making silly or sarcastic statements about their friends), or whether they will be accurate representations that could build better targeting on Facebook. Only time will tell.
