Many companies are getting into social media these days that you would not expect. At first I thought I had heard it all when I found out about a blender company using social media, then I heard about a dog food company using social media, and just this week I stumbled across the latest: a UK Blind company named Nets2Go.

Let me explain. Earlier this week I got an email from David Eaves over at Nets2Go who sent2626161286_9d446a0a8a_o.jpg me a short email that said, ” Hi, One of my clients has made these social networking blinds: http://www.nets2go.co.uk/love-isnt-blind.html. Is there any chance of a plug?”

After review of the site I found out quickly that Nets2Go makes custom blinds, draperies, generally any window covering under the sun – but instead of being a brick and mortar store, they are all online. While you can order your dimensions specific to your windows, evidently you can also make completely custom orders like: I want Elvis (yes, they’ve done it…), or some other personal combination that only you would want.

But the interesting reason David reached out to me was because his company recently got a rather unusual request from a social media geek. His order? 9 window coverings for his house, all with social media logos on them. The picture in this post is just one of the actual pictures Nets2Go took after installation, and I just had to share it with all my fellow social media geeks out there. Click here if you want to view the rest.

The sad part of the story? Two weeks after the blinds were installed this client separated from his wife. When asked about it, this client stated, ““It was coming anyway….. but my design choice for the blinds was pretty much the nail in the coffin. She doesn’t understand the intense geek in me. And anyway, the only one she’d even heard of was2626067354_15a679ac2b_o1.jpg Youtube”

The fun part(s) of the story?

1) This article received 249 diggs. For a blind company (especially an online retailer like Nets2Go), this is an excellent way to increase exposure.

2) They are going to make us an Ignite Social Media version for the office :-) We can barely contain our excitement (seriously). Once we get them in the mail we’ll share pictures.
