Seniors Tell Their Stories with Social Media

Bayshore Home Health, a Canadian elderly care company, has created a unique project using social media that enables elderly people to tell interesting, thought-provoking stories that shaped their lives. It’s in the form of a Tumblr blog called Before They Were Grandparents and welcomes people to share stories, photos, videos and quotes. The project aims to create a sense of community amongst their clients and uses the site to organize live storytelling events for people of all generations.

Bones Orthopedic Cast Speeds Recovery by Adding Social Media

Bones is a futuristic-looking cast embedded with sensors that capture muscle activity and dispatch the data to a health-management website. The site features social elements allowing doctors and patients to view each others’ progress. The thought of letting other patients look at your medical records might seem a little odd at first; however, the creator believes social pressure will help motivate patients to perform exercises, speeding the recovery and lowering medical costs.

Hubspot Goes for Guinness Record

The inbound marketing firm, Hubspot, is hoping to set the world record for the largest webinar next week. There’s no current record holder but just to be safe, Guinness is requiring them to have at least 500 attendees. Considering 20,000 people have registered for the event next Tuesday, it appears that the firm has a pretty good chance. During the webinar, Hubspot’s Dan Zarrella will explain his data-based framework for successful social media marketing campaigns.

Detroit Casinos Work to Bank on Social Media

Detroit’s three casinos, Motorcity Casino Hotel, MGM Grand Detroit and Greektown Casino Hotel, are using social media to compete for customers among themselves and nearby Caesars Windsor in Canada. In addition to sending messages about jackpots and promotions, the casinos are using social media as a way to provide customer service. iPhone app developer, Henry Balanon, tweeted that he was enjoying a night at MGM Grand Detroit and went back to his room to find cookies, treats and a handwritten note waiting for him.
