A 'Fab'ulous Deals Site Launches Today, Uses Social Media to Establish a Userbase

Imagine a high-end version of Groupon combined with a design blog and throw in a dash of Etsy and you have the newly launched Fab.com. The deals site focuses on products (furniture, art, electronics, etc.) with an emphasis on aesthetics. The first day alone featured some nifty recycled chairs and hand-signed artwork (seen below).

I found out about it a few months ago from a Facebook ad and after signing up was informed that it wouldn’t be launching for a few months. The way they decided to drum up a following was to offer fans free credit for inviting their friends. This was done by providing a unique code that you could share on Facebook and Twitter.

A way of keeping users engaged until the site launched was their fantastic “Inspiration” blog where users can submit photos in an attempt to inspire each other. It features some breathtaking photography and even if you’re not too jazzed about another deals site, I would definitely suggest signing up just to look at the great photos.

One of my favorite features, and an edge it has on Groupon and LivingSocial, is that it has a “Coming Soon” tab at the top in which you can see all the deals for the upcoming week.

It’s only been one day and after seeing the deals offered in the first week, I have to say, I’m a big fan. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
