We are currently in the thick of “National Camp Out In Front of Your Local Apple Store” Week. Offices are empty, streets have been abandoned… In preparation for tomorrow’s unveiling of Jobs’s gift to us all (iPhone 3G), here are a couple of random doodads.
iTunes 7.7 was released this morning. What does that mean? Well, it now means that if you have an iPhone, you will be able to download applications onto your device straight from iTunes (there is a caveat, though). Doing it isn’t very intuitive, so here are the steps:
- Download/install iTunes 7.7
- Once installed, you need to make sure iTunes is set up to display Applications. Do this by going to Preferences and clicking on the Applications checkbox in the section called “Show” (it may already be selected)
- Next, click on the “Applications” link within Library
- You’ll see a gray screen. At the bottom of the screen, you’ll see a link called “Get More Applications”, click on that.
- You should see an updated iTunes Store page with a bunch of apps for you to download and bloat up your iPhone with.
CAVEAT: There is a missing piece to this puzzle. In order for you to install these apps onto your iPhone, you’ll need to update your phone’s firmware to 2.0, which isn’t out yet. It was supposed to drop in June… I think the only thing we can do at this stage is bow our heads and pray (prayer courtesy of anthonyb) for 2.0 to drop soon:
