Gene Smith
Director of Technology
Gene is multi-lingual. He’s fluent in Ruby and PHP and is completely comfortable translating these languages into seamless and strategic executions each and every time.
How did he get so good? With over ten years in online communications experience and technology development – experience that has well versed him in tailoring content management programs such as Radiant, Wordpress, Drupal, ExpressionEngine, Sharepoint (to name a few), managing databases and operating systems, employing site analytics, and creating custom applications to fit individual client needs.
Before joining Ignite, Gene worked as a Web Services Manager for the Service Employees International Union, where he developed and managed online communications, internal and external websites, and directed and managed staff and programs. He also brings experience in web development, technology consultation, and online public affairs.
Gene earned his Master’s of Arts degree at Howard University and his undergraduate degree at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio Texas. His passions include African Studies, the latest web 2.0 technologies, and spending time with his 3 year old son Elijah.
